Sara Fernandez




Sara is excited to be returning for her seventh year of teaching at Bullis Charter School. Her philosophy of teaching students as individuals is one thing that greatly attracted her to BCS, and she is passionate about creating a collaborative classroom community where each student feels comfortable to push themselves as learners. She is eager to continue her work with the great students and staff here.
Having grown up in Palo Alto, Sara has always considered the Bay Area her home. After graduating from Gunn High School, Sara obtained her BA in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University – Idaho. Throughout her program, Sara had the opportunity to work with students in many different areas. She completed her student teaching in a 4th grade classroom in Las Vegas, Nevada and shortly after, returned to the Bay Area with her husband. Sara also worked as a substitute teacher and 1-1 aide for special needs students in the Palo Alto Unified School District. In addition, Sara has taught technology-based Math Intervention and College Bound classes. Sara began her work at BCS as the Associate Teacher on the fifth grade team, taking over the class during a leave of absence by the homeroom teacher, and later became a homeroom teacher. Sara is excited to conitinue her work in fifth grade at BCS this year. She is always excited to collaborate with her amazing team and develop project-based learning units that incorporate a variety of subjects and skills. She truly loves getting to know each student on a personal level and helping students set goals for themselves that help them to grow academically, emotionally, and socially.
Outside of school, Sara focuses on spending time with her seven year-old daughter and four year-old son. She enjoys being outdoors, walking, fishing, camping, and playing at the beach. When not outside, Sara enjoys baking, cake decorating, and various craft activities.
